San Marcos CA— Late last night, June 4, 2016 at approximately 10:30, deputies from the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a train vs. pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at milepost marker 119.2, which is nearest the intersection of Rancheros Drive and Mission Road, in the city of San Marcos.
An eastbound Sprinter Train was traveling at approximately 48 miles per hours when the operator observed a pedestrian lying on the railroad track. The Sprinter operator activated its emergency braking system upon first seeing the pedestrian, but was unable to stop prior to the collision.
The pedestrian was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
