Vista CA— Early this morning, Monday July 11, 2016, at approximately 12:32 A.M., Vista deputies were dispatched to a vehicle collision with one vehicle rollover at East Bobier Drive and Heidi Circle, in the city of Vista, county of San Diego.
A preliminary investigation determined one of the drivers was driving a Ford Focus westbound on East Bobier Drive and was racing another vehicle traveling westbound on East Bobier Drive. One witness reported the vehicles were traveling between 90 and 100 mph.
The driver of the Ford Focus lost control and drove over the center raised concrete median, hit a traffic sign, and drove into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes of East Bobier Drive. The Ford Focus then collided head-on into a Mercedes C300 that was traveling eastbound on East Bobier Drive.
The collision had caused the Ford Focus to rollover onto the passenger side with the vehicle facing eastbound. The uncontrolled resting point of the Mercedes was facing southbound. Both vehicles had major damage.
There were a total of 4 occupants in the Ford Focus. After the collision occurred one of the occupants in the Ford Focus fled the scene. The other 3 occupants were trapped inside of the vehicle and the Fire Department had to use the jaws of life to remove them from the vehicle.
All 3 of the occupants were transported to the hospital for unknown, possible life threatening, injuries and one was transported by Mercy Air. Alcohol was a factor in the collision. There were a total of 2 occupants in the Mercedes who were also transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
