Carlsbad CA— On Friday, July 1 at 7:30pm the City of Carlsbad Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen regarding a domestic battery that just occurred in the 100 block of Juniper Avenue between Carlsbad Boulevard and Garfield Street.
Carlsbad Police Officers responded and located the victim who had fled to a neighbor’s residence. Officers were advised by the victim that she sustained a laceration to her forehead when her boyfriend slammed her head onto the hardwood floor in their residence. The victim identified the suspect as Gabriel Navarro. The victim advised officers that Navarro had armed himself with a shotgun and was still somewhere inside their residence.
Carlsbad Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where she was treated and released for her injuries.
The Carlsbad Police Department SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded to the location and made several attempts to contact Navarro with Public Address announcements and via telephone however he did not respond. Carlsbad Police SWAT Officers searched the residence with the assistance of a Carlsbad Police K9. The K9 located Navarro hiding in the attic of the residence.
Navarro was arrested and transported to the hospital prior to being booked into Vista Jail on domestic battery charges.
