A Music Filled Weekend Plus a Little Trivia on Tap for Oceanside July 14- 17

Oceanside CA— Lots of music in the mix for Oceanside this weekend beginning tonight at the Sunset Market. The Hickory Wind Band is scheduled for the main stage, 5:00-9:00pm. The Sunset Market is located in the heart of Downtown Oceanside at the corner of Pier View Way and South Tremont Streets.

Friday July 15

The Greg Douglass Band

will perform rock and roll favorites. Greg Douglass is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (formerly with the Steve Miller Band). Concert starts at 5:00 p.m.; food trucks will be on site. This concert will be held at Rancho Del Oro Park, 4701 Mesa Drive (next to the YMCA) in Oceanside.

South Pacific

opens at the Star Theatre. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and ten Tony© Awards including Best Musical, Book and Score, SOUTH PACIFIC is a heartwarming tale of love and romance, war and racial tolerance, and laughter and liveliness. Written and composed by the golden era’s powerhouse duo, Rodgers and Hammerstein, the score is full of memorable, timeless tunes such as “Younger than Springtime”, “There’s Nothing Like a Dame”, “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair”, “I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy”, and – of course – “Some Enchanted Evening”. Rating: PG

Rubio’s Fifth Annual CoastFest

The festivities at the Oceanside Pier will kick off at 10 a.m. with community members going the extra nautical mile at a beach cleanup hosted by I Love a Clean San Diego. To get in on the cleanup action, you can register at CleanSD.org. Participants should plan to bring a bucket, gloves, sun protection and a reusable water bottle. All volunteers must sign a waiver to participate regardless of age, and minors require an additional parent or guardian signature on their waiver form.
Following the beach cleanup, the CoastFest celebration includes:

  • Complimentary food and drinks Attendees will get to sample a Pan-Seared Shrimp Taco topped with fire-roasted corn, creamy chipotle sauce, cilantro, onion and cabbage, in addition to enjoying handmade guacamole and chips, freshly prepared salsa, beverages and more.
  • Music festival Guests are invited to visit the main stage throughout the celebration for free live music from a collection of local Southern California bands, as well as giveaways from 94.9 FM and KSON 97.3. Standout musical acts include The Mowgli’s, a Los Angeles-based group incorporating rock n’ roll, indie-folk and heartfelt ballads to create a quintessential California sound; and Broken Stems, a rock band that seamlessly blends classic rock with blues, soul and reggae.

Sherlock Homerun: A Whodunit Puppet Musical at Oceanside Library

For the kids; Sherlock Homerun, world famous consulting detective, and his trusty bilingual soccer ball sidekick, Watson, are out to solve a wacky musical mystery and save the Summer Games! Come join the fun and Read-for-the-Win at Oceanside Public Library where you’ll help solve the mystery of the missing baseball diamond in this lively puppet show on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Community Rooms at the Civic Center Library, 330 North Coast Highway.

Oside Outside Benefit Concert

Feeding the Soul Foundation, a non-profit organization that highlights the talent of local musicians to promote local foundations and businesses continues with the O’Side Outside Summer Concert Series benefiting Banding Together. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Surfside Tap Room from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The line-up for this show includes performances By: Barnwell Shift, Billy Galewood, and Lee Coulter
Cost: General Admission, $25. You can purchase tickets [Here]
Banding Together provides music scholarships and opportunities for youth with special needs such as autism, cerebral palsey, and Down syndrome.

Trivia Bee

Not really music related but there might be a musical question or two as the Friends of the Oceanside Public Library (a 501c3 nonprofit, all-volunteer organization) will once again host the Oceanside community’s most FUNdraiser, the Trivia Bee! The Bee will take place on Sunday, July 17, 2016, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Junior Seau Beach Community Center at the foot of the Oceanside Pier. Thanks to Buzztime Entertainment, teams of varying sizes, many sponsored by service organizations and local businesses, will get to use their knowledge of trivia to compete to win the coveted Seagull trophy. David Nydegger of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. The event will also feature a contest to honor the team with the most team spirit, opportunity drawings, and a few valuable auction items.
Tickets may be purchased by cash or check at the Civic Center or Mission Branch Libraries, or by credit card at triviabee2016.eventbrite.com. Advance tickets are $30 or $35 at the door. Teams may be made up of 3-8 people. Gourmet refreshments will be served. A free shuttle will be available for patrons that would prefer to park at the Civic Center Plaza. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Oceanside Public Library.

Concert in the Park

Taylor Tickner (singer/guitarist) and Robert Parker (pianist) will perform from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Heritage Park, located, 220 Peyri Drive in Oceanside. The Friends of Oceanside Parks will present a community appreciation award to the Oceanside Police Department.
