Encinitas CA— At about 6:30 this morning, August 6, 2016, a white male adult, “face-timed” his girlfriend and stated he wanted to commit suicide. The adult male argued with his girlfriend and informed her he was going to drive his vehicle off a beach cliff.
At about nine minutes later, a person reported a vehicle driving off the beach cliff near the 400 block of 4th Street in Encinitas. The vehicle drove through the guard-rails and fell 80 feet before crashing on the beach. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was lying motionless on the beach. No one else on the beach was injured.
The Encinitas Deputies responded code 3 emergency lights and sirens and arrived on scene. The fire department and lifeguards arrived shortly after. CPR was performed however the driver succumbed to his injuries. A doctor from Scripps Encinitas Hospital pronounced the driver deceased just after 7:00am.
Due to the wet sand and high tide approaching, a forklift loader was used to remove the vehicle.
The Medical Examiner later arrived and took custody of the deceased driver.
The Medical Examiner will identify the deceased and determine the cause and manner of death; however, at this time the investigation indicates the collision appears to be an intentional act committed by the adult male described above.
