Oceanside CA— Oceanside mourns the passing of City Treasurer Gary M. Ernst who died of natural causes. Gary was a long time resident of Oceanside, active in the Oceanside Rotary and International Rotary and was an active member of the California Treasurers Association. Gary held a BSM Degree from California State University Los Angeles; a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and was a Certified Municipal Treasurer. He was 61 years-old.
Mayor Jim Wood said, “Our city mourns the loss of City Treasurer Gary Ernst, a dedicated public servant. Gary will be deeply missed by the City Council, staff and community.”
Gary Ernst was appointed City Treasurer in December, 2010, to fill the unexpired term of Gary Felien. He was elected to his first full term as City Treasurer in November, 2012. He served on the City of Oceanside’s Treasury Investment Oversight Committee from July, 2000 until his appointment as City Treasurer.
