Local Election results- Updated: Monday, November 28, 2016, 2:30pm.
Update: Dave Roberts has conceeded the election to Kristen Gaspar in the County Board of Supervisors, District 3.
San Diego County CA— It was a good night to be an incumbent in Oceanside, even one who had passed away before the election as they all kept their seats.
Mayor Jim Wood retained his seat easily while it appears Esther Sanchez and Jack Feller will hold on to their seats despite the efforts of a newspaper, started just before the election, with the apparent purpose to unseat the two.
The late Gary Ernst, who passed away in September defeated Nadine Scott for Oceanside City Treasurer. Oceanside City councilmember, Jerry Kern called on voters to elect the late treasurer saying, ” Ms. Scott does not get to win by default because her opponent passed away. This is the process that must be followed according to state law. If Ms. Scott is trying to say anything different, it demonstrates her lack of knowledge regarding the law and once again demonstrates her lack of qualification. She is not qualified to be Treasurer and it is in the city’s best interest for the voters to select Mr. Ernst in order for the City Council to select a qualified Treasurer to replace him.” Ms. Scott had stated that she is very qualified and Mr. Kern was trying to disenfranchise voters.
In Carlsbad, despite the bad feeling towards council members handling of Measure “A” the mall on the lagoon, Keith Blackburn and Cori Schumacher will probably retain their seats on the council with just over 92% of the ballots counted.
The Vista City Council race was too close to call with five votes separating Dale Pilat and Joe Green for the second place spot but Green has increased his lead as vote counting continues. The top vote getter, in the choose two election, is Amanda Rigby,
Turned out it was a good night for the incumbent US Representative from the 49th district, Darrell Issa(R) as he defeated Colonel Doug Applegate(D)after the challenger had a sizable lead, in the San Diego county votes, over Issa for the House Seat with 63% of the vote was counted in the county. Issa surged ahead in late vote counting and Orange County voters ultimately giving Issa another term.
Dave Roberts has conceeded the election to Kristen Gaspar in the County Board of Supervisors, District 3.
The passage of Prop 64, legalization of recreational marijuana, may keep some of the voters in California who promised to leave the country if Donald Trump became President and it may ease the pain of Charger fans losing the team because of the failed stadium initiative in San Diego. The plastic bag ban is leading in a vote that switched throughout the night. Cigarettes, vaping and other tobacco will cost more with the new cigarette tax passing overwhelmingly.
Measure MM, the close to half a billion dollar bond for MiraCosta College was approved and Measure B, the Lilac Hills Development project went down to defeat by a wide margin.
