Oceanside CA— The Community Alliance for Youth Success (CAYS), co-founded by Stedman Graham and Bobbi DePorter, is bringing Youth Success Week to Oceanside, California from January 30 – February 4, 2017. Held in collaboration with the Oceanside Unified School District, the event brings together visionary educators, student and community leaders, professional experts, youth-serving organizations, entertainers, parents and students in an unprecedented demonstration of how a community can come together and put its children first.
Steve Farber, part of the CAYS Organizing Committee, founder of the Extreme Leadership Institute, and father of three and stepfather of three more, said, “I’ve had a bit of experience with educators over the years. I’m a huge fan of our teachers, and I respect the challenges that they face to bring knowledge and skills to our youth. As a parent, I also believe that we have laid the success of our kids almost exclusively at the feet of our teachers with the edict to make sure that their charges grow up to be valuable members of our society.”
Farber noted that since his involvement with CAYS he has come to realize that the success of our youth is not just the responsibility of our teachers, administrators, and professional educators. It’s all of ours: parents and business people as well.
“It falls to us as a united community to create the right environment, serve as mentors, and take an active interest in the kids around us, even though we may not have children of our own,” said Farber.
He added, “The ultimate success of our society, our collective legacy, is entirely dependent on today’s youth becoming tomorrow’s phenomenal leaders. Our youth are smart, creative, and interested. They offer a priceless, distinct contribution to all of us–if only we’d be aware enough, and care enough, to pay attention and listen to them.”
Farber stated that the mission of CAYS is to listen to the children and hear what success means to them, helping us understand what obstacles they face in their environments, education, in circumstances.
“As an organization, parents and community, we strive to facilitate our youth’s ability to communicate and take action to remove those obstacles,” Farber said.
The goal, noted Farber, is to provide the platform for our leaders of tomorrow, regardless of heritage, experiences or socio-economic status.
