Oceanside CA— On Friday February 24, 2017 at 4:43 am, the Oceanside Police Department responded to several calls of a disturbance in the 1700 block of S. Myers St. Multiple callers reported hearing shots fired, followed by a subject yelling for help. Upon officer’s arrival, a male was located and reported he sustained a gunshot wound.
The victim was immediately transported for medical treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries at 5:36 am. The victim has been identified as 45-year-old, Joel Bishop, of Oceanside.
OPD developed information which led to the identity of two suspects in the homicide of Joel Bishop. Suspects Hector Galvez, DOB 8/13/1986 and his female companion Jamie Radloff, DOB 02/06/1990 were located in the City of Hemet.
At the request of OPD, Hemet PD assisted with the investigation until detectives could respond to their location.
At approximately 3:16 pm on February 25, Hemet Police observed a suspect related to the investigation, Hector Galvez, near the 900 block of west Florida Avenue. While officers were attempting to take Galvez into custody, an officer involved shooting occurred. No police officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.
Galvez was treated and released at a nearby hospital and transferred to the custody of the Oceanside Police. Due to the nature of the Officer Involved Shooting investigation, no further information will be released.
At about 6:03 pm the same day, Radloff was located by OPD detectives in an unincorporated area of Hemet.
Motive for the homicide is still being investigated. All subjects are acquainted with each other. Both Galvez and Radloff have been taken into custody and charged with PC 187(a) – Homicide
