San Marcos CA— The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has completed the autopsy related to a deputy involved shooting on March 2, 2017, in San Marcos. The suspect has been positively identified as 34-year-old San Marcos transient, Isidro Bazan Jr. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the torso. (Original story here)
During the confrontation in the garage, deputies inside the house tried to talk Bazan into surrendering. He refused, yelling obscenities and threatening to kill deputies and himself. After telling deputies he was armed with a Glock 40, Bazan put a black object to the side of his head before suddenly exiting the vehicle. As Bazan ran towards the open main garage door, a deputy inside the doorway leading from the house into the garage deployed one round from a less-lethal shotgun. Almost simultaneously, a deputy outside in the front of the garage saw Bazan running out of the garage looking over his shoulder with his arm extended towards the deputies inside the doorway.
Concerned he was armed with a handgun and shooting at deputies inside the doorway, the deputy fired two rounds at Bazan striking him once in the torso. The object Bazan held to his head was later determined to be a dark -colored butane torch which was found on the ground in the driveway next to Bazan’s hat.
No further information is available at this time.
