Oceanside CA— Last night, Tuesday August 29, 2017, shortly before 10:00pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to a call of shots fired with a subject down at Melba Bishop Park, 5603 North River Road.

Upon the officer’s arrival, a male victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound, was located in the field area of the park. Officers along with fire department personnel provided life saving efforts, however the victim succumbed to his injuries. The victim is a 49-year-male who resides in Oceanside.
Initial investigation indicates the victim was walking his dogs in the park and became involved in an altercation with two suspects when he was shot.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending the notification of family members by the Medical Examiners office.
