Oceanside CA— A ribbon cutting ceremony, Thursday morning, marked the debut of the new 29,000 square foot Performing Arts Center on the campus of Oceanside High School. The center has a 502-seat main theater, a black box theater, indoor and outdoor scenery shops, classroom space, a recording studio plus outdoor seating and performance areas.
The $24 million facility at the high school founded in 1906, was built with Proposition H Bond Funds, approved by Oceanside voters in 2008, authorizing the Oceanside Unified School District to issue up to $195 million in general obligation bonds for school facility improvements.
“Thank you to the community of Oceanside who entrusted the district with Proposition H Bond Funds to construct this beautiful facility we are opening today,” said the Superintendent of Oceanside Unified School District and OHS alum, Dr. Duane Coleman. “Thanks to the voters, our kids will develop skills that will last a lifetime and discover talent that will lead to careers.”
“We’ve been waiting ten years for this. It’s hard to believe the time has come to cut the ribbon and celebrate this amazing learning facility,” said Oceanside High School Principal, Teresa Hill-Collis.
The celebration continues this Saturday, September 30, with a public open house, 10:00am-2:00pm.
Saturday evening at 7:00pm, the OHS Foundation will be hosting a benefit concert with an exciting line up of talented OHS graduates, many of whom are professionals in the field of music and voice. They will be performing an assortment of delightful entertainment.
