Elevated surf and strong rip currents Friday through Sunday
San Diego County CA— A long-period south-southwest swell of 4 ft at 18 seconds from 195 degrees will create elevated surf along south-facing beaches today through the weekend. Strong rip currents are expected along most beaches in San Diego and Orange counties through the period. Surf will gradually lower early next week.
The beach hazards statement remains in effect today through Sunday evening with surf 4 to 7 ft surf north of Carlsbad and 2 to 3 ft elsewhere. The highest surf will be on south-facing beaches.
A Beach Hazards Statement indicates an increased risk for swimmers, surfers. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can wash people off beaches, rocks and
capsize small boats near shore.
Obey posted warning signs and flags and talk to a lifeguard before swimming. Use caution when in or near the water and always swim near a lifeguard.
