Oceanside CA— This afternoon, October 20, 2017 shortly after 5:00pm Oceanside and Carlsbad Fire Department units responded to a report of a single-family residential structure fire at 3440 Orchard Way in northeast Oceanside.
Fire units were dispatched just after 5:06pm with reports of victims trapped in a bedroom. The first Oceanside unit arrived in approximately 4 minutes, reporting a working fire with heavy smoke coming from the residence.
Crews advanced interior attack line to complete a primary search for the occupants and located the seat of the fire. Additional crews arrived to support the first arriving crews and located the fire that was contained to the kitchen. Also, crews were sent to the roof to perform vertical ventilation of the residence to evaluate the attic space for fire extension. The search of the residence was completed at the same time the owner of the home was located to verify no one else was inside the home.
The fire was contained to the kitchen which was heavily damaged. Smoke damage was reported throughout the residence with water damage from the firefighting operation kept to a minimum.
The fire was under control and extinguished fifteen minutes after the first unit arrived on-scene. Additional crews immediately performed salvage operations of the occupants’ property and a comprehensive overhaul of the fire was completed.
Firefighters were able to save the family pets and they were reunited with the family during the incident. The estimated dollar loss for the damages to the structure and contents was not determined at the time of the press release. In addition, the cause of the fire is still under investigated and has not been determined.
A total of five engines, two trucks, one medic unit, one fire investigator and two battalion chiefs responded to the fire, bringing a total of 26 personnel assigned to the fire.
No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident.
