Oceanside CA— At the January 25 Board of Trustees meeting, MiraCosta Community College District was presented with, and approved, a favorable ‘good bill of health’ on its independent financial audit for the year ending June 30, 2017.
“On behalf of my colleagues on the board, we are grateful for the trust the community has instilled in the district and will continue to uphold sound fiscal management as stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said David Broad, president of the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees.
In compliance with California Education Code section 84040 and in accordance with the regulation of the California Board of Governors, the annual audit of all funds, books, and accounts of the district was completed by Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co., LLP, certified public accountants licensed by the California Board of Accountancy.
MiraCosta College has received an unmodified opinion with no material weaknesses or management comments noted. The report showed a clean audit with a $4.2 million increase in the district’s net position. This is the seventh year MiraCosta has earned the clean audit designation and the third year to receive a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
“The clean audit reflects the work of staff to diligently make sure our financial statements accurately represent the district’s fiscal reality,” said MiraCosta College Vice President of Business and Administrative Services, Charlie Ng. “The college is committed to excellent financial management and rigorous internal controls in order to best serve our students and community.”
