Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has received a $70,000 grant from LA84 Foundation to build a brand new gym floor! Over the past two weeks, old layers of tile, carpet, and concrete were peeled away and replaced with a shiny new wooden floor, perfect for basketball and other sports programming.
BGCO offers a free basketball program for members, coached by Donal Yasukochi, a long-time board member and volunteer. Now our basketball players and more than 2,000 other Club youth will have an amazing, brand new floor to play on soon, and they deserve it!
“A new gym floor was long overdue, but they come with a very hefty price tag.” said Jodi Diamond, CEO. “Thanks to LA84, we were able to put in a state-of-the-art floor. Our brand new court will let our youth feel like professional athletes.”
Through our basketball program, youth learn responsibility, dedication, teamwork, and leadership. This experience opens college doors for many who may not have the finances to pay for higher education. Under Coach Donal’s direction, many Club youth have gone on to receive basketball scholarships and now play at a collegiate level.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) is a youth development organization that is dedicated to providing a safe, fun and enriching environment for youth to spend time during non-school hours. During the school year, we serve 1,400 youth daily, providing stimulating and quality Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STREAM) activities. In addition, we offer a unique program to adults with disabilities, called R.O.A.D.’s.

BGCO raises 100% of the funds that support our life changing programs through individual giving, events and grants. 100% of those funds stay right here in North County to serve youth in our local communities.
