Oceanside CA— This evening Wednesday, March 28, the Oceanside City Council will vote on the recommendations of the City’s Medical Marijuana Ad-hoc Committee. The recommendations, which have been reviewed by City Staff and three of the City’s Advisory Commissions, will be presented at a Public Hearing which will take place during the 6:00pm hour of Wednesday’s meeting.
“352 days after the creation of the Medical Marijuana Ad-hoc Committee, the City Council will finally make a decision on the committee’s recommendations,” said Deputy Mayor Chuck Lowery, chair of the Medical Marijuana Ad-hoc Committee. “I believe the City will be able to move forward on this item and provide the much-needed access of medical marijuana to patients who live in Oceanside.”
If the City Council approves the recommendations, the item will come back for a second reading in April, and then the ordinance will go through a 30-day waiting period before becoming law.
This will be the first opportunity for new Oceanside Mayor, Peter Weiss to vote on the recommendations. On December 20, 2017, in a 3-1 vote in favor, the Council approved a request by Deputy Mayor Lowery and Council-member Kern that the Council forward the recommendations of the Medical Marijuana Ad Hoc Committee to appropriate staff and advisory boards/commissions for review and comments to be brought back to Council for adoption at a later date which is today. Council-member Sanchez was the dissenting vote. Former Mayor Jim Wood had resigned a week prior to the vote.
