Carlsbad CA— On Monday afternoon, March 5, 2018 at 4:49 p.m., Officers from the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to area of Carlsbad Blvd. and Avenida Encinas regarding a report of a serious injury collision. Upon arrival, officers found that a Subaru Outback, operated by a male driver, had backed into a female pedestrian, causing serious injuries to her. The Carlsbad Fire Department arrived and provided advanced life support to the female pedestrian. The pedestrian was subsequently transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the vehicle was backing up northbound in the southbound Bike lane of Carlsbad Blvd, just south of Avenida Encinas. As the driver backed into the intersection of Carlsbad Blvd. and Avenida Encinas, he struck the female pedestrian.
The driver was identified as a 48 year-old male from Encinitas. The pedestrian was identified as a 62 year-old female from Carlsbad.
Traffic Officers responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.
