Oceanside CA— Early this morning, April 23, 2018, at approximately 12:39am, the Oceanside Fire Department along with mutual aid units from Carlsbad and Vista responded to reports of smoke and fire seen coming from the rear of a single family residence located in the 1500 block of Kelly Street.  While responding, units were advised by Oceanside PD at the scene, the house was a confirmed working fire and it was unknown if anyone was still inside.

The first engine arrived at the scene in less than seven minutes after dispatch and found the rear of the residence well involved with the fire spreading to the inside of the single story, single family residence. The first fire crews focused on getting control of the fire at rear of residence while also controlling the fire from spreading inside the residence. Additional crews were assigned to extinguish the fire in the residence, as well as conduct a primary and secondary search of the residence.
The search of the residence was completed at the same time the owner of the home was located to verify no one was inside the home. No victims were found inside by the fire crews, as the occupants in the home at the time of the fire managed to safely escape on their own.
The fire was contained to the residences with no other structures threaten. The residence suffered heavy smoke and fire damage. After extensive effort and an aggressive attack, fire crews were able to bring the fire under control within fifteen minutes after the first unit arrived on scene. Crews performed salvage operation of the residence and a comprehensive overhaul was performed. A family of seven and three pets was displaced, and American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
An investigator with the Oceanside Fire Department responded to the scene in order to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The estimated dollar loss for the damages to the structure and contents was not determined at the time of the press release. In addition, the cause of the fire has not been determined and is still under investigated.
