Community input needed for 2019 Regional Plan Transportation Network Themes

San Diego County CA— SANDAG will host a series of open houses starting Monday, April 23 and running through Thursday, May 3 to gather ideas and input from participants about the future of transportation in the San Diego region.
Seven open houses will be held in the city of San Diego and in key cities in the regional areas of North County Coastal, East County, South County, and North County Inland.
To develop San Diego Forward: The 2019-2050 Regional Plan, SANDAG planners have compiled research about a variety of societal and environmental components and considerations that have historically shaped how highways, roads, and transit infrastructure are formed. These include population, environment and climate change, public health, the economy, jobs, housing, and emerging technologies and services. How these components are considered, in addition to the funding available to build potential projects, will frame the themes that the SANDAG Board will consider as the 2019 Regional Plan is developed.
Attendees will be able to visit tables dedicated to the transportation components that are being considered in the network development process. Participants can provide input to SANDAG staff, via a print or online survey, comment cards, or through email.
“Input from the public is crucial to creating an effective plan that reflects the needs and interests of our region’s residents and businesses,” said SANDAG Chair and Del Mar City Councilmember Terry Sinnott.
“We want the public to participate and share their ideas during this planning process,” added Sinnott. “SANDAG is committed to engaging residents of the San Diego region throughout the development of the Regional Plan because it helps guide us in deciding where to invest funding resources for projects that we and our future generations will enjoy.”
Ideas and input gathered about the transportation network themes will be used by SANDAG planners to develop draft transportation networks. These networks – groups of projects and programs – are expected to be available for public review and input this summer.
The SANDAG Board of Directors will consider and is expected to select a preferred scenario — which will form the core of the 2019 Regional Plan — in fall 2018.
The first two open houses will be hosted by SANDAG and held at Caltrans District 11 headquarters in the Old Town community of San Diego:
