Oceanside CA – At 12:55 pm, Sunday May 20, 2018, Oceanside Fire Department units were dispatched to a broken natural gas line at 1112 S. Ditmar Street in Oceanside. En route, units were advised that the line was “broken and blowing”. The first unit arrived on scene 9 minutes after initial dispatch and confirmed the broken and blowing status.
According to witnesses on scene landscaping work was being done in the front yard and a small bobcat doing some digging struck the gas line.
Occupants of 1112 S. Ditmar were evacuated from their home and firefighters secured the homes immediately to the North and South since nobody was home at either residence. Firefighters, in conjunction with the Oceanside Police Department, closed Ditmar Street from Reese and Eucalyptus Streets.
Residents on Nevada Street to the East were advised of the incident and were told to secure windows and doors since the prevailing wind was blowing in their direction. Crews patrolled the surrounding neighborhood with gas monitors.
SDGE arrived on scene roughly 30 minutes after the incident started and secured the gas line at 13:58. All streets were reopened at that time and all residents were allowed back into their homes. SDGE remained the on scene after the last fire unit cleared at 14:05.
