More than 10,950 visits were recorded at 100 SANDAG iCommute Pit Stops providing encouragement and refreshments

San Diego County CA— Those who chose to GO by BIKE this morning during SANDAG Bike to Work Day found enthusiastic support along their routes, lots of donuts, and fun giveaways as they pedaled across San Diego County on their way to work.
The 100 pit stops set up from San Ysidro to Lakeside to Oceanside recorded more than 10,950 visits, which broke last year’s record of 10,793 visits.
“The number of pit stop visits we saw today shows that a bike is a viable transportation choice for getting to work or to school on a daily or weekly basis,” said SANDAG Chair and Del Mar City Councilmember Terry Sinnott. “Commuters who GO by BIKE have a fun experience, get the best exercise, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion.”
SANDAG has organized Bike to Work Day for more than 20 years. The SANDAG iCommute program arranged for 100 pit stops, staffed by volunteers who represented health care organizations, local businesses, municipalities, government agencies, colleges and schools, bike companies, and sponsors from around the region.
Those who registered for Bike to Work Day through iCommuteSD.com received a free commemorative Bike to Work Day 2018 t-shirt.
Photos from the event can be viewed at Facebook.com/iCommuteSD. Everyone is encouraged to go to the iCommute Facebook page to enter and/or vote for their favorite Bike to Work Day pit stop, bike commuter, and bike commuter group.
The annual event aims to demonstrate that commuting to work by bike is a fun, environmentally friendly, cost-saving alternative to driving. Via its GO by BIKE program, SANDAG encourages everyone to ride their bikes regularly as a means of transportation – whether it’s to work, to school, or to run errands.
Bike to Work Day 2018 was sponsored by Discover Bike and Think Blue San Diego, and supported by: Chipotle Mexican Grill, GoGo squeeZ, RX Bar, Suja Juice, the City of San Diego, Cal Coast Bicycles, Cycle Quest, Moment Bicycles, Poway Bicycles, Revolution Bike Shop, Velofix Mobile Bike Shop, LimeBike, Mobike, Ofo, and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.
