San Diego County CA— The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Coastal Flood warning effective from 11:00 am. Sunday, June 10, 2018 through 8:00pm Tuesday, June 12.
A Southern Hemisphere swell will arrive Sunday bringing high surf, dangerous rip currents and longshore currents to the Southern California beaches creating dangerous swimming conditions.
Waves and surf will be increasing to 6-9 feet on Sunday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday. Surf to 12 feet at the most favored locations such as ‘The Wedge’ in Newport Beach.
Expect dangerous swimming conditions due to the presence of large breaking waves, strong rip currents and longshore currents. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline to escape the current. If unable to escape, face the shore and call and wave for help.
