Oceanside CA— This afternoon, August 25 2018, just after 12:30, Deputies from the San Diego Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a Sprinter train vs. bicyclist collision that occurred where the train tracks intersect South Coast Highway in the city of Oceanside. The intersection is near mile post marker 100.30.
Prior to the collision, a west-bound Sprinter train was approaching the intersection at 25 mile per hour. As the Sprinter train entered the intersection, a bicyclist riding northbound on South Coast Highway rode around the closed rail crossing gate and into the intersection. The Sprinter train operator activated the train’s horn and braking but was unable to stop the train before it collided with the bicyclist.
The bicyclist suffered minor injuries and declined medical attention at the scene.
