Carlsbad CA— The new California Pacific Airlines, which began operating from McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad November 1, 2018, is expanding its fleet of Embraer 145s, as well as adding Sacramento and Denver to its route system.
CEO and Founder Ted Vallas announced this week that California’s state capital, Sacramento, will be added to the current schedule with two daily round-trip non-stop flights beginning March 1, 2019.
Additionally, beginning on March 15, CPAir’s schedule will expand further east from Carlsbad to Denver. That new service will have a stop-over at Phoenix-Mesa’s Gateway Airport in the eastern part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. Also, on March 15, Reno will have two non-stop flights daily from Carlsbad.
At present, all of CPAir’s western division operations originate out of Carlsbad’s Palomar-McClellnen Airport, located just east of Interstate 5, at the northern edge of San Diego’s metropolitan area, some 30 miles from downtown San Diego, just south of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton.
“We’re expecting two additional Embraer 145 aircraft to be added soon to our fleet,” Vallas said. The Brazilian jet aircraft carries up to 50 passengers. We’re also anticipating adding a larger Embraer 170 sometime in early 2019.
Vallas, now 97, began building the new airline nine years ago. In the 1980s, he owned and operated Air Resorts, a seven-plane airline operating out of San Diego.
“People told me I was crazy and that I’d never get this (airline) off the ground,” Vallas said. “Right now we’re flying high.” He continued, “With San Diego’s international airport jammed with traffic, our Carlsbad base allows our passengers to park for $5 a day, check their bags, pass through TSA, and be ready to board their plane in less than 15 minutes,”
