Carlsbad CA—On December 7, 2018, at 6:00am., officers from the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to a report of a bicyclist that had collided with a vehicle on El Camino Real near Palomar Airport Road.
Arriving officers found a 58-year-old male bicyclist lying in the roadway.
The Carlsbad Fire Department responded and transported the bicyclist to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the bicyclist was riding northbound in the southbound lanes of El Camino Real just south of Palomar Airport Road when the collision occurred. Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor in the collision.
The 31 year-old driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and the investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
The Carlsbad Police Department reminds bicyclists of the rules of the road, always riding in the same direction of travel. Also, the importance of visibility during hours of darkness.
