Oceanside CA— This afternoon, August 8, 2019 at 12:42, Oceanside Fire Department along with Camp Pendleton Fire Department units were dispatched to a reported vegetation fire behind the NCTD Sprinter station at Crouch St. and Oceanside Blvd.

The first unit to arrive on scene found approximately 1 acre of grass burning with a moderate rate of spread in a vacant field at Crouch and Skylark. Units were immediately deployed on Crouch Street in an effort to stop the fire from crossing the street and becoming established in the heavy brush on the other side. While the fire did spot across Crouch St in thee location, crews were able to quickly suppress the spot fires. Had the fire continued burning across Crouch Street, approximately seven homes in the Fire Mountain area would have been immediately threatened by the flames.
After approximately 23 minutes of effort, crews were able to stop the forward progress of the flames and contain the fire. In all, approximately 4 acres of brush and grass burned in the fire. The three spot fires across Crouch totaled less than a ¼ acre.
There have been a two other brush fires in the surrounding area over the past several days. Investigators from the Oceanside Fire and Police Departments were called to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The fire remains under investigation at the current time, but was not started by any electrical lines or other utility infrastructure. There were no injuries to firefighters and no evacuations were ordered. Two engines will remain on scene until approximately 3:30 pm mopping up any remaining hot spots.
