Alcohol a possible factor in fatal collision
Oceanside CA— Early this morning, January 26, 2020, at 1:10am, Oceanside Police along with the Oceanside Fire Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian on N. Coast Hwy at Sportfisher Dr.
Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male lying on the east sidewalk. The 22 year-old male pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where despite life saving measures taken, he succumbed to his injuries and died a short time later.
Based on physical evidence at the scene, and the statement of the driver involved, it appears that the male was crossing N. Coast Hwy at or near the intersection when he was hit by the car traveling North on Coast Hwy. The driver immediately stopped and waited for police to arrive. The driver was not injured.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this collision and the driver, William Vaden 31, was arrested for DUI.
The name of the deceased has not been released pending family notification.
The investigation is ongoing by the Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
