Encinitas CA— Last night, January 3, 2020, at approximately 8:11 P.M., deputies assigned to the North Coastal Station responded to 470 Arroyo Drive in the city of Encinitas for a report of a structure fire.
Deputies arrived on scene to find a residence on fire and received reports of a male trapped on the second floor. The first responding deputy entered the structure to attempt life-saving measures but was unable to access the second floor due to the fire. The deputy suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to UCSD hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
The Encinitas Fire Department contained the fire and discovered a deceased male on the second floor.
Sheriff’s Bomb Arson Detectives responded to the scene to determine the origin and cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
