Carlsbad CA— The Carlsbad City Council will hold its first ever virtual City Council meeting as part of its response to the COVID-19 emergency. The online meeting will take place Tuesday, March 24, 5 p.m., and be livestreamed on the city website and cable channel, Charter Spectrum Channel 24 and AT&T U-verse channel 99.
City Council members and staff will participate via a video teleconference. Due to physical distance recommendations related to the COVID-19 emergency, members of the public may not watch in person.
Members of the public can email their comments to the City Clerk (clerk@carlsbadca.gov) prior to the start of the agenda item the comment relates to. Comments will be provided to the City Council at the beginning of that agenda item. The City Clerk will read comments out loud if the email requests that and if the comment is 500 words or less.
The state of California has temporarily changed public meeting laws to enable government bodies to carry on with the legislative process while maintaining the physical distancing guidelines put in place to protect public health. One of the changes is that public meetings may be held online or by phone. The public must still be able to observe the meeting and provide comment, but this doesn’t have to be in person.
These procedures shall remain in place during the period in which state or local health officials have imposed or recommended social distancing measures.
All public meetings must still comply with public noticing requirements in the Brown Act.
