Carlsbad CA— The Ready Carlsbad Business Alliance – a collaboration between the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the City of Carlsbad and the business community – will be holding a Stop the Bleed and Active Shooter Training symposium on Friday, March 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Hosted by Viasat Inc. the event is meant to prepare the business community and bystanders to respond should a mass casualty incident or active shooter incident occur.
“I feel this training is important because the public are the true first responders,” said Carlsbad P.D. Sgt. Mike Ernst, who will be in charge of the Run/Hide/Fight – Active Shooter training portion of the symposium. As a survivor of the Las Vegas mass shooting in 2017, he knows first-hand what it’s like to go through a large-scale emergency situation. “During the first few seconds or minutes first responders are likely not going to be there. So, whatever the public can do to help themselves and others is simply a force multiplier for law enforcement.”
The Trauma Research and Education Foundation (TREF) will provide hands-on Stop The Bleed training for all participants. This comprehensive event will also feature Dr. Sara G. Gilman, PsyD, LMFT, co-founder of Coherence Associates, as a speaker. She will touch on how psychological preparedness and its tools can help a bystander deal with a mass casualty incident and its aftermath. Additionally, FBI North County SSA Brady Finta will discuss the role of the FBI during a mass casualty incident.
For security reasons, preregistration is a must by March 10. Tickets are $25 and include breakfast and Stop The Bleed kits while supplies last. To register, got to www.carlsbad.org.
