Registration Now Open for the 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day, on Thursday, May 14
San Diego County CA— The 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day will be celebrated throughout the San Diego region on Thursday, May 14.
Since the early 1990’s, Bike to Work Day has encouraged people across the county to bike as an everyday, environmentally friendly, cost-saving commute option.
The 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day is organized by the SANDAG iCommute program in conjunction with local jurisdictions, businesses, and partners.
During the last three decades, Bike to Work Day has steadily grown from a few thousand riders in its early years to more than 10,000 visits to pit stops recorded in recent years.
To celebrate 30 years of biking to work, the 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day team designed a 1990s theme throwback t-shirt, commemorating the decade when this regional effort first began. Participants can vote now for their favorite t-shirt color on the SANDAG Facebook page now through Sunday, March 8.
Interested participants can now register for the 30th Annual SANDAG Bike to Work Day at iCommuteSD.com/BiketoWorkDay. People who register by April 12 will be entered to win a $500 gift certificate to Moment Bicycles.
On May 14, registered riders will be greeted at 100 pit stops countywide to pick up a free 30th Anniversary t-shirt, grab refreshments and snacks, and get encouragement from pit stop volunteers.
Pit stops are crucial to the success of this annual event. Organizations interested in supporting Bike to Work Day can apply online to host a pit stop now through March 20. One hundred locations will be chosen throughout San Diego County to support participants. For application instructions and evaluation criteria, visit the SANDAG iCommute website.
SANDAG also recently awarded a total of $60,000 in GO by BIKE Mini-Grants to 21 organizations throughout the San Diego region to support a variety of programs and events that will encourage biking and participation in Bike Month (May). These events will be free to the public, and will take place from March – June.
