Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad will postpone or cancel public events and programs to support the County of San Diego’s public health order issued Thursday, March 12.
The county’s public health officer announced five additional cases in San Diego County of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, bringing the total to six. In addition to prohibiting events with 250 or more participants, the county “strongly encourages” the cancellation of smaller gatherings when a distance of 6 feet or more cannot be maintained between people and other public health precautions cannot be met.
The order starts at midnight March 12 and is in effect through March 31.
Some of the city’s affected programs and events include:
- Pirate Plunge
- Parks & Recreation programs and classes
- Senior Center programs and classes
- Sports leagues
- Library programs and events
- Cultural arts events
Large events with city permits will also be cancelled if they expect more than 250 people.
The senior meal program offered at the Senior Center will be on a pick up basis only starting Friday, March 13.
The city’s preschool program will continue to be held with additional public health precautions in place, following the lead of public schools in the county.
The county’s order does not apply to typical office environments, retail stores, shelters, airports and other similar locations.
The city will update plans as needed based on additional direction from public health officials. See the city website for details as they are available.
