San Diego CA— The San Diego Workforce Partnership released their weekly updateon employment figures and analysis specific to our region’s workforce in regards to impacts associated with COVID-19.
- 168 layoffs since March 10, 2020
As anticipated, the region saw COVID-19 significantly impact many companies and their workforce, with layoffs effective immediately for the majority of employers.
- 21,801 employees affected
This includes 14,162 in the hospitality, food, restaurant and bar industry. This is an estimate based on the notices received by the Workforce Partnership, although the direct impact to employees and the region’s economy is still unknown.
“What we’re hearing from employers is that they are overwhelmed and deeply concerned. More than anything they are thinking about how to support their employees and how to adapt going forward with such uncertainty. Our region has been hit very hard by this crisis. At the San Diego Workforce Partnership, we are doing all we can to support our business community and workforce throughout the pandemic,” said Peter Callstrom, president and CEO of San Diego Workforce Partnership.
