Oceanside CA— Early this morning, Wednesday, April 8, 2020, starting at 3:18 A.M., Oceanside Police responded to numerous calls of vandalism, burglary and assault in the 3500 block of Strawberry Place.
The suspect described as a white male adult in his late 40’s had thrown rocks at homes, vehicles and at one point ran through the inside of a neighbors residence. The suspect had also attacked a male neighbor with a metal object injuring his shoulder.
Officers checked the neighborhood and eventually located the suspect close by on the Mira Costa College campus. When contacted the suspect refused to comply with the officers and attempted to attack them with a metal object that was later determined to be a windshield wiper arm and blade broken off a vandalized vehicle from the neighborhood. A taser was deployed and the suspect was taken into custody.
Officers noticed the suspect had shallow breathing that stopped and they began lifesaving measures. Those lifesaving measures were continued by Oceanside Fire Department Paramedics to no avail and he died at the scene.
The case investigation is ongoing by the Oceanside Police Departments Crimes of Violence Unit and the San Diego District Attorney’s Office.
