Open call for community members to submit videos on what Pride means to them
San Diego CA— Since cancelling in-person gatherings, San Diego Pride planning is underway for their virtual celebration which takes place online from July 11 – 18. The organization has put out an open call for video submissions where community members can share their personal story about what Pride means to them.
Telling personal stories is one the most powerful tools the LGBTQ community or any marginalized communities has in the fight against injustice. The raw, honest, and emotional portrayal of the struggles, and love, and lives is what changes hearts and minds, forges meaningful solidarity, and ultimately changes society and policy in a way that positively impacts lived experiences.
“We are in the huge undertaking of creating what a virtual Pride is and looks like. That doesn’t happen without everyone,” said San Diego Pride Executive Director Fernando Z. López. “We are asking our entire community to be a part of San Diego Pride 2020 by sharing their personal voice, unique story. Each of us knows the value of what our experiences at Pride have meant to personally for our lives. Where we met our found family. Where we had our first kiss in daylight. The first time we felt free. The first time we felt home.”
Community members are asked to submit a 15 – 30 second video detailing what Pride means to them personally, favorite Pride memories, life changing Pride experiences, and more.

Pride volunteers are also being asked to submit videos about why they volunteer.
Additional details and dates can be found at www.sdpride.org/pride
This year’s theme is Together We Rise which will focus on calls for collaborative social justice and will help to shed light on intersectional ways the community members can address the issues impacting our community, region, and movement and ask you to join in on that work.
