Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has received a $10,000 grant from The Leichtag Foundation to support their emergency food program. BGCO has been providing meals to the community’s youth since May 4th, offering fresh-made lunches and snacks to children under the age of 18. Due to this generous funding, BGCO will continue to provide curbside lunch pick up throughout the summer. Since beginning the program, BGCO has served over 12,000 meals and snacks.
BGCO reopened for summer camp on Monday, June 15th; youth and staff alike were overjoyed to be back! Moving forwards, meal service will be expanded to Monday through Friday, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Meals are prepared by our accomplished Culinary Arts staff and are fresh, nutritious, and most importantly, delicious! Each pickup includes a lunch and snack.
The Leichtag Foundation designated more than $400,000 in rapid response emergency support to organizations providing direct services for the most vulnerable populations in the Jewish and North County San Diego communities, and in Jerusalem. The Leichtag grant will go towards purchasing food and program supplies, as well as the staffing necessary to implement the program.
“We are so incredibly grateful for The Leichtag Foundation’s support. These are difficult times and we know many of our families are really suffering. These grant funds will ensure that children in Oceanside, many of whom rely on school and Club meals, will continue to receive the nutrition they need to thrive and grow.” said Jodi Diamond, CEO.
Parents can come to our Townsite location at 401 Country Club Lane in Oceanside to receive meals for their children. Youth need not be a member of BGCO to receive a meal, but must be under the age of 18. Families do not need to leave the safety of their cars, thanks to our convenient curbside pickup! They will pull their car up to the curb outside the Club, where they will see a food program sign. Club staff will then hand meals through the passenger window. We will also offer curbside pickup for those without cars, while adhering to social distancing protocols, as recommended by the CDC.
