San Diego Employers Association joins Oceanside’s partnership with MiraCosta College to bring together Oceanside employers and ready to hire students for skills-specific job fair
Oceanside CA— In July 2020, the City of Oceanside launched its Hire Local initiative, designed to stimulate economic opportunity for local residents and businesses through a combination of Incentives, Development, Education, and Access (IDEA).The initiative bridges the gap between high-quality, in-demand jobs and resident readiness to accelerate professional and business growth.
Phase One of the Hire Local initiative – access to tuition-free certificate programs for Oceanside residents – resulted in MiraCosta College realizing full-capacity for six of its seven technical programs. With the programs nearing completion, the Hire Local initiative is sponsoring three virtual job fairs that match ready to work students and hiring employers. With expertise in California Labor Laws and Human Resources, the San Diego Employers Association will participate in the Virtual Fair as subject matter experts (SMEs) and facilitate “Best Practices for Candidates Entering the Job Market and What Employers Look for When Hiring.
“We are very excited about the initial success of the Hire Local initiative” said Michelle Geller, Economic Development Manager for the City of Oceanside. “With the unprecedented economic challenges experienced this year, we continue to feel the sense of urgency to help our residents seize every opportunity with local companies in position to staff up.
By sponsoring the virtual job fairs, we are connecting the dots between residents and businesses and helping students stand out as they enter a tight job market.”
“COVID-19 has necessitated we operate with more agility” said Linda Kurokawa, Executive Director, Community Education & Workforce Development for MiraCosta College. “I am excited about highlighting student talent in a contemporary virtual job fair and thank the City of Oceanside for bringing resources such as San Diego Employers Association to make this possible and creating greater value than we could offer independently.”
Businesses need to join the City’s Consortium at
www.hirelocaloceanside.com/businessconsortium to participate in the virtual job fair and get early access to ready to hire students. Through the Hire Local initiative, Oceanside residents who complete a certificate program, get hired by a participating Oceanside firm and complete six months of successful employment are eligible for a $500 bonus, paid by the City of Oceanside.
