Vista CA— Early this morning, December 27, 2020 at about 2:57 AM, Traffic Deputies from the Vista Patrol Station responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident at 2405 North Santa Fe Avenue, in the city of Vista. Upon arrival, deputies found a male pedestrian lying in the roadway of North Santa Fe Avenue with serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a driver of a red Dodge Dakota was traveling southbound in the 2400 block of North Santa Fe Avenue. The driver of the Dodge Dakota looked down briefly and when he looked back up, a pedestrian was standing in the middle of the roadway in front of him.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota attempted to swerve but collided with the pedestrian. The male sustained an apparent broken leg and was unconscious with what appeared to be severe head trauma. During the investigation the male victim was identified as a recently reported missing person at risk out of the city of Oceanside.
The Oceanside Fire Department responded to the scene to administer first aid to the victim. Paramedics transported the victim to Palomar Medical Center for additional treatment. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene. Speed or alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Vista Traffic Division is handling the investigation.
