Oceanside CA— Just before 3:00pm this afternoon, December 4, 2020, Oceanside Fire Department units responded to investigate smoke in the area of the river bed adjacent to 501 San Luis Rey Drive. There were multiple callers to 9-1-1 reporting smoke prior to first arriving units on scene.
At 3:06pm, Oceanside E211 arrived on scene and confirmed a 60’ x 60’ vegetation fire just north of the river bed. E211 advanced a progressive hose lay for fire control. Initial firefighting efforts were hampered due to accessibility issues, however fire spread was limited thanks to local topography.
During the operation, a priority traffic alert was necessary due to small explosions in the immediate work area of fire crews. This was suspected to be from propane tank eruptions.
At 3:45pm, the fire was declared under control. Units remained on scene for an additional hour for area overhaul.
There were no injuries to firefighters or residents on this incident. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
