The South Bay to Sorrento Project Study to be Discussed First in a Series of Virtual Meetings

San Diego CA—SANDAG and Caltrans will host a series of virtual public meetings over the next few months to discuss the development of 12 data-driven Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plans that are the first step to developing projects that ultimately will reduce congestion and generate additional transportation choices.
These long-term plans will incorporate the needs of the people in the study areas in order to transform the way people and goods move throughout the region while preserving community character and creating opportunities for enhancement projects.
Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plans evaluate all travel modes and transportation facilities in a defined corridor – highways and freeways, parallel and connecting roadways, transit (bus, bus rapid transit, light rail, intercity rail, etc.), pathways, and bikeways. The plans are necessary to apply for certain state and federal funds, which can be leveraged to support regional transportation projects.
The South Bay to Sorrento project study area is one of the first five corridors prioritized for this specialized planning study by SANDAG.
SANDAG and Caltrans invite members of the public, local businesses, and community-based organizations to learn more about the South Bay to Sorrento project study. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide comments, and get involved in the planning process.

The 28-mile-long South Bay to Sorrento corridor is one of the most congested and heavily used corridors in San Diego County. Major transportation facilities in the study area include I-5, I-805, and I-8, as well as SR 52, SR 54, SR 94, and SR 905. The study area also includes major arterial streets and the Bayshore Bikeway. Existing transit services include the COASTER, the Trolley, multiple Rapid lines, and more than 25 local bus lines. The South Bay to Sorrento Comprehensive Multimodal Corridor Plan is anticipated to be finalized by late 2021.
For members of the public who are unable to attend the virtual public meeting, a recording of the meeting will be posted on the South Bay to Sorrento Corridor virtual engagement hub following the live event. Those visiting the hub are encouraged to ask questions, leave comments, take a project survey, and provide ideas and suggestions on the interactive map. Additional public meetings will be held in 2021 for the other four corridor plans currently under development.
