Del Mar CA— Something fun is sprouting up this summer at the Del Mar Fairgrounds! The 22nd District Agricultural Association, the organization traditionally responsible for presenting the annual San Diego County Fair, is getting back to our roots to present HOMEGROWNFUN, a four-week celebration of community and agriculture offering a taste of what San Diegans have grown to love about the annual fair.
Due to continuing limitations on mass events owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, combined with the ongoing commitment to using of a large portion of the Del Mar Fairgrounds facility as a vaccination super station, it is not feasible to host the annual fair in its full capacity.
However, smaller in scale and limited in attendance, “HOMEGROWNFUN presented by the San Diego County Fair” will offer a taste of fair favorites, including shopping, food concessionaires, a Ferris wheel and carousel, agricultural-themed exhibits, and demonstrations and entertainment designed to educate and delight families looking to get outside for some real-life, in-person, down-home, but still masked-up and socially-distanced fun!
Safety First
HOMEGROWNFUN will adhere to all state and county public health guidelines in effect at the time of the event and has developed a COVID-19 operational plan. Guests will be required to wear masks, remain distanced from other guests and are encouraged to wash their hands often. Additionally, capacity to this event is limited and guests must purchase admission and parking tickets in advance, online only. No parking or admissions will be sold on site. Staying safe doesn’t have to be boring – at Sudsy’s Barn at HOMEGROWNFUN, handwashing becomes child’s play! Traditional faucets have been replaced by a goat pouring water from a watering can, a cow pouring water from a milk carton, and a horse spouting water from a hose; while soap is dispensed from flower pots and hand dryers are built into chicken coops. The handwashing station is also ADA compliant.

WHAT TO DO & SEE AT HOMEGROWN FUN:
Shopping
From your kitchen favorites like CutCo knives, Vitamix blenders and that simple salsa maker to the largest selection of toe rings you’ve seen just about anywhere, HOMEGROWNFUN will feature two large retail shopping halls full of gadgets and gizmos a-plenty that you just can’t seem to find anywhere else! Outdoor kitchens, bar-b-ques, spas and modular homes will also be on display with vendors available to discuss financing and installation options.
Entertainment & “Edu-tainment”
It’s a race to the finish for the Swifty Swine Racing Pigs, and the four-legged stunt stars from Extreme Dogs will leap their way right into your heart! Learn something new at a crafty “make-and-take” demonstration, be dazzled by Godfrey the Magician’s quick wit and sleight of hand, and venture through Agri-land to learn about California’s crops from cut flowers to coffee to San Diego’s favorite fruit, the avocado. At HOMEGROWNFUN entertainment and education combine in a colorful outdoor experience including music, magic, demonstrations, contests and shows.
Rides that Go ‘Round
The Grand Wheel, colorful Carousel, and Happy Day Pony Rides will delight visitors of all ages at HOMEGROWNFUN. After all, nothing beats the view of the sparking blue Pacific from the top of our Ferris wheel, a spin around a merry-go-round is sure to bring a smile to your face, and saddling up on Happy Day Pony Rides has been an equestrian introduction for generations of riders.
Fair Food Favorites
Whether you’re craving deep-fried favorites, smoky bar-b-que, sweets and treats, or something served on-a-stick, HOMEGROWNFUN will have more than thirty food concessionaires to choose from, including fair favorites like Juicy’s, Biggy’s, Tasti Chips, Orange Julius, Texas Donuts, Chicken Charlie’s, Chrutchee’s Ice Cream, Pink’s Hot Dogs, Australian Battered Potatoes, Who Fried the Cheese, Pignotti’s Gourmet Italian, Country Fair Cinnamon Rolls, Chuckwagon BBQ, Wood Pit BBQ, Kettle Corn, and Bob’s Corn-on-the-Cob.
