Through multiple programs, San Diegans in need of food assistance can access holiday food items and prepared meals

San Diego CA— Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, Feeding San Diego is providing resources to the local community by distributing holiday food items and prepared Thanksgiving meals at various distribution sites throughout San Diego County. Anyone in need of food assistance can go to Feeding San Diego’s website and use the Find Food Map to locate the food distribution nearest to them.
“This holiday season is unlike any other with the continued impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising costs of nearly everything. In fact, this Thanksgiving could be the most expensive in the history of the holiday,” said Dan Shea, CEO of Feeding San Diego. “We want to make sure that San Diegans have the food resources they need during this time so they can focus on spending time with family, not how to pay for their groceries.”
Below are ways to access holiday food items:

  • At its drive-through Together Tour food distributions throughout San Diego County, holiday meal items such as mashed potato mix, stuffing mix, canned cranberries, green beans, and sweet potatoes, and more will be included in the dry goods box. Attendees receive at least 50 pounds of food at these distributions, including dry goods, fresh produce, and a frozen meat protein. Anyone in need can register here.
  • All Feeding San Diego partner sites, including the non-profit’s agency and community partners, mobile pantries, and school pantries, will receive holiday food items through December 23. To find a distribution nearest to them, the public is asked to use the Find Food Map on the organization’s website here.
  • Free Thanksgiving meals for youth are available at four of Feeding San Diego’s Youth Meals sites on November 23 and 24. A full list of dates, times, and locations is here. This year’s meals are provided in partnership with Top Notch Lunches and include roasted chicken, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, maple glazed carrots, local apples and dinner rolls. To receive the box, parents simply need to give their child’s name. One box per child is available. Children do not have to be present. These sites include:
    • Pro Kids Oceanside
    • Ocean Discovery Institute in City Heights
    • Montgomery Waller Rec Center in South San Diego
    • South Bay Rec Center in South San Diego
