San Marcos CA— On Sunday, January 9, 2022, at about 4:08 pm, deputies from the San Marcos Station responded to an unknown injury traffic collision near 2709 South Santa Fe Ave., in the city of San Marcos. Upon arrival, deputies learned two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on S Santa Fe Ave.
The two vehicles were a silver Toyota minivan and a blue Scion sedan. The 56-year-old male driver, and sole occupant, of the sedan sustained serious injuries and was transported to Palomar Medical Center by the San Marcos Fire Department. He was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The four occupants of the minivan were transported to Palomar Medical Center and Rady’s Children’s Hospital for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries. The extent of their injuries are currently unknown.
At this time, it is unknown if speed and/or alcohol were a factor in the collision. This investigation is ongoing and being handled by the San Marcos Traffic Division.
