Oceanside CA— Early this morning, February 19, 2022 at 2:13am, the Oceanside Police Department responded to calls of a single vehicle collision into a light pole at State Route 76 and Airport Rd.
Officers arrived on scene to find the vehicle, a Dodge SUV, fully engulfed. Oceanside Fire responded to extinguish the fire and found two occupants in the vehicle deceased.
There were no witnesses to the collision and at this time the cause is unknown.
This deadly single vehicle collision was the second in less than 10 hours to claim two lives. Late Friday afternoon, a fatal collision occurred in the area of College Blvd and Avenida Empresa. A 2008 Toyota Scion XB traveling northbound on College Blvd, drifted from the lane and struck a concrete retaining wall and fire hydrant. The vehicle rolled over and came to a rest in the northbound lanes. The driver of the Toyota was ejected from the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene. [Link]
The investigation is ongoing into the crash on SR-76. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs was a factor in the collision.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin by the Medical Examiner.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted the investigation.
WB SR- 76 was closed for several hours between Foussat to Airport Rd. for the investigation
