OsideNews:

Vista CA— More than 300 firearms were turned in by the public over the weekend of Aug. 27 during a Guns for Gift Cards event at the Vista Traffic Court parking lot in Vista.
The event — held by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department in partnership with the Carlsbad and Oceanside police departments, city of Vista, San Diego County District Attorney’s Office and the North Coastal Prevention Coalition — netted 377 firearms, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release. Those turning in the weapons received a $100 gift card for handguns, rifles and shotguns, or a $200 gift card for assault weapons.
The weapons will be destroyed after being processed, the Sheriff’s Department stated. Firearms determined to have been used in crimes will be followed up on by law enforcement. Other guns discovered to have been stolen will have their owners contacted.
The public can turn in unwanted weapons anytime to any Sheriff’s station or substation.
