Explore Digital Content Hub Showcases Ever-Expanding List of Places to #TakeTheTrain Supporting Family-Friendly Fun and Economic Development

Los Angeles CA— Metrolink, Southern California’s regional train service, today introduced EXPLORE – a new digital content hub featuring destinations familiar and new Southern Californians can get out and discover after spending the last seven months staying safer at home. And those who sign up for the SoCal Explorer Rewards program introduced last week will earn points for every mile they travel on Metrolink, which they can redeem for free tickets towards their next trip.
From beaches and hiking trails, to downtown al fresco dining and unique shopping experiences, Southern California is rich with places its residents can safely go – and use Metrolink to get there without traffic or parking hassles. The Metrolink EXPLORE digital content hub features a curated collection of places to see and things to do in the six counties Metrolink serves and includes directions to get there from the nearest Metrolink station. Metrolink employees contributed their suggestions, offering firsthand insights on some of the most interesting places to visit, based on their personal experiences as members of the community and Metrolink riders themselves.
“Southern California is a truly special place, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy a different experience, familiar or new, as often as they want,” said Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins. “Our employees are excited to share their favorite places to safely go – including their favorite local businesses that need our support as our region begins to reopen over the coming weeks and months. Plus, riding the train is a part of the fun.”
The EXPLORE digital content hub offers ideas for Metrolink accessible destinations, searchable by county, to enjoy a daycation or staycation. Ideas range from the beaches of Orange County and the bike paths and parks of Ventura County, to Grand Central Market or The Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles County and to the authentically local al fresco eateries of Riverside and San Bernardino County. There are seemingly endless places to explore using Metrolink.
The Metrolink experience allows riders to relax and enjoy their trip from the moment they board the double-decker trains, with expansive windows that offer views of Southern California’s diverse scenery as they relax while speeding past traffic. Metrolink trains offer various seating options, including face-to-face seating and tables that are perfect for family and friend outings. Metrolink bike cars make it easy for casual and serious bike riders to explore Southern California’s many trails, and there is designated space for surfboards and picnic gear onboard, too. Plus, Metrolink riders reduce congestion and help keep our air quality clean and healthier for all.
Metrolink offers a variety of passes and tickets making it an affordable travel option for leisure travelers and commuters alike. Frequent riders can choose a Monthly Pass of Five-Day Flex Pass – which they can buy ahead at a discount. For those who ride less frequently, round-trip and one-way tickets are also available. And weekend riders can use a Weekend Day Pass they can use anywhere Metrolink travels on weekends – and kids ages 17 years and under ride free. Metrolink also offers discounts for Seniors, Youths, and Active Military.
Metrolink takes every precaution possible to protect the health and safety of its riders. Adhering to social distancing measures is a breeze using Metrolink’s How Full is My Train? tool to check recent ridership levels and ensure there’s plenty of space for their adventure. Face masks are required on station platforms and aboard trains that are continuously cleaned and disinfected by a Clean Care Crew. As an additional layer of protection every day each train car is deep-cleaned and electrostatically sprayed with hospital-grade disinfectants.
