Former Angels standout player Tim Salmon leads off the lineup of guest conductors
Los Angeles CA— Metrolink has announced its Guest Train Conductor Program with retired Angels World Series hero Tim Salmon leading a lineup of elected officials, community leaders and local celebrities. Guest train conductors provide recorded messages to greet Metrolink riders and give important information about the rail system and local stops.
Salmon’s voice will welcome passengers onboard Metrolink Orange County Line and 91/Perris Valley Line trains and announce station stops, along with service connecting to Angels Stadium. The program reflects Metrolink’s ongoing effort to engage riders in a unique and fun way.
“The Guest Train Conductor Program is a great opportunity for Metrolink to connect with passengers in a fun and fresh way by using notable people who have a personal connection with other riders on the line,” said Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins. “It is a thrill to have Tim Salmon as the first Metrolink guest train conductor, not only because the fans remember him so fondly, but because he remains close to his roots and is an integral part of the Orange County community.”
Salmon is a native of Long Beach who played 15 major league seasons with the Angels and was a crucial part of the Angels 2002 World Series run. Salmon was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1993 and is the Angels all-time leader in home runs (299) and walks (970).
Over the last 20 years, the Orange County-based Tim Salmon Foundation has supported numerous at-risk children’s organizations through the Tim Salmon Gold Classic.
“I am excited to partner with Metrolink as a guest train conductor,” said Tim Salmon. “Metrolink provides a great service for Orange County and I look forward to speaking to passengers as they travel aboard the trains, especially when they are on their way to Angel Stadium!”
Each guest train conductor introduces themselves in their own style and gives updates on stops and information about the local cities and other important facts to help riders enjoy the experience.
In addition to Salmon, guest train conductors will include State Senator Connie Leyva, Metrolink Board Member and Riverside County Supervisor Karen Spiegel, Metrolink Board 2nd Vice Chair and Highland Mayor Pro Tem Larry McCallon, Metrolink Board Member and Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis and Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey, just to name a few.
