Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Award Recognizes 32.45% Reduction in Energy Use
Los Angeles CA— Metrolink, Southern California’s commuter rail service, has been awarded a 2020 Sustainability Impact Award in Energy Management by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). The award lauds the agency’s participation in LADWP’s Commercial Lighting Incentive Program which resulted in a 32.45 percent reduction in annual energy consumption through retrofitting and upgrading all building light fixtures at Metrolink’s Central Maintenance Facility.
“I’m very pleased our maintenance department’s energy management was recognized with this award,” said Metrolink CEO Stephanie N. Wiggins. “Not only did their work progress the agency’s sustainability efforts and contribute to the City of Los Angeles’ building energy reduction goals, the upgraded area at our CMF is now better illuminated, improving the safety and security for employees who work there at night.”
LADWP created the Sustainability Awards Program in 2016 to celebrate customers’ sustainability efforts. It recognizes its most impactful customers in energy efficiency, water conservation, demand response, renewables and electrification of transportation. Metrolink’s sustainability achievement along with the accomplishments of the other award recipients will be celebrated in a formal online awards ceremony later this month.
Metrolink is committed to protecting the environment in Southern California and enhancing the quality of life for people living in our communities. Metrolink’s sustainability efforts include being the first commuter rail system in the nation to operate new locomotives powered by Tier 4 clean technology, which reduces emissions by up to 85% compared to older locomotives. Additionally, Metrolink is currently conducting a study to analyze the future climate risks on Metrolink’s systemwide infrastructure and facilities, including those impacts anticipated on surrounding populations and disadvantaged communities.
