Quakes rattle region

At least two earthquakes were felt in the San Diego region Sunday afternoon, one of which registered 5.4 on the Richter scale, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Both quakes hit near the towns of Brawley and Westmoreland. The first quake registered 5.3 and hit at 12:31 p.m., according to USGS. The second quake registered 5.4 and hit at 1:57 p.m. The larger temblors have been preceded and followed by numerous quakes in the 2 and 3 range, or higher, according to the USGS real-time map. A 4.3 temblor was recorded at 2:15 p.m.

There were no immediate reports of damage, although Facebook reports indicate people felt the quakes somewhat moderately to not at all throughout the county.
